A Family Supper

Kazuo Ishiguro’s writing is reminiscent of the American author Ernest Hemingway, who used very few words to tell stories of great depth. The short story in your textbook is a simple tale of a homecoming – but beneath this deceptively plain surface much, much more is going on. Hemingway called this the “iceberg principle” of writing.
